    THE GITES

    GENERAL

There are twelve Gites located in four groups. The Gites vary in size from one bedroom to three bedroom properties.

Our one and two bedroom Gites are ideally suited to couples and to families.  Our three bedroom Gites can accommodate larger families of up to six people plus a baby.  Every person, however young occupying the Gite is counted as a person.

Whilst all the Gites are privately owned any property featured on the website meets a series of standards established by the owners committee and the site management. The individual furnishing and facilities reflect the taste and style of the owner. These do vary between Gites; a detailed description of each Gite is shown on our website.

There are a number of Deluxe Gites which are furnished to a higher standard than the other Gites and may have a wider range of facilities within them.

    OPENING

We are open from the beginning of April to the end of October.

Long term winter lets may be possible, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

    ANY PROBLEMS

We do our utmost to present you with a properly prepared Gite.  We want you to feel that your stay with us is like a home away from home.  We would ask you to remember that the Gite you are staying in is someone’s home and to treat it with respect.  We ask that you leave the Gite in a similar condition to how it was presented to you on your arrival.  Occasionally problems do arise, if you do find something of concern to you please let us know immediately, there is somebody on the site on a daily basis through the main months of the year, and we will try and resolve the problem to your satisfaction.

    LINEN

Bedding, towels & tea towels are provided, free of charge and a change is provided each week.  Pool towels are provided during the swimming season and are changed fortnightly.  It is possible to have a mid week change of towels, additional charges are applicable.

    YOUNG CHILDREN

We are delighted to accommodate babies and toddlers. We have a supply of cots, high chairs and baby baths available on a first come basis. Stair guards are available in most Gites.

    LIMITED MOBILITY

We are able to accommodate guests with limited mobility, please refer to the website for full details (click link).

Seven of the Gites have bedrooms on the ground floor.

    WI-FI

There is a Wi-Fi hot spot in the centre of the site. Access to the service is free. Whilst we do everything we can to maintain this service we are in the hands of France Telecom who provide the overhead lines which carry the service and our service provider who supplies the hub and router.

    TV

All the Gites are equipped with a DVD player and some of the Gites have satellite TV. Please refer to the detailed description of each Gite for full details. There is a communal TV on which we show events of major interest (World Cup, Tour de France, Grand Prix, Olympics etc). We have difficulties receiving French terrestrial TV due to the fact that the site is surrounded on three sides by woods.

    PETS

We are sorry but we are unable to accommodate pets in the Gites and on the site.

    WASHING FACILITIES

We have a washing service available. A wash load can be left with Reception. There is a small charge (2011 - 5€) per machine load. Washing is returned wet, each Gite has a drying rack and there are also washing lines available.

During the high and shoulder season the Gites run from either Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday. Outside of this period we are often able to offer midweek arrivals. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.

During the high season we normally only accept bookings for a minimum two week stay. We do, occasionally, have one week possibilities but this is dependent upon the pattern of reservations.

    PRICES

The prices shown are in sterling.  The price is the weekly rate for the Gite.  It is fully inclusive of everything other than electricity.

    PAYMENT

A deposit of 25% is payable to secure all reservations with the balance being payable 8 weeks prior to the start of your stay. We accept payment by cheque or bank transfer.

We are also able to accept payment by PayPal. Cash transfers from one PayPal account to another are normally free of charge.

If bank/PayPal charges are applicable to your payment, these will be added to the final balance.

Please make sure that you have adequate travel insurance which covers you against cancellation.

    BREAKAGE DEPOSIT

A breakage deposit is payable in cash (please note that we do not accept credit cards) on your arrival at the Gites.  Upon your departure we will check the Gite with you.  Subject to their being no breakages and the Gite being left clean we will refund the breakage deposit when you leave.

If you leave outside our normal departure times (08.00 to 10.00) we will refund the breakage deposit by post.

    SITE FACILITIES

    SWIMMING POOL

Our swimming pool is an outdoor pool, 12mts by 6 mts, with a shallow end (approx 1.20mts deep) and a deep end (approx 1.80mys deep). The pool is open from mid May until the end of the third week of September.

The pool is heated and we try and keep the temperature around 27°/28°. At the beginning and end of the season our ability to maintain the temperature is dependent upon climatic conditions.

There is a children’s paddling pool which is open in July and August.

For your security the pool is surrounded by a combination of walls and fences and there is a dual locking gate to prevent young children being able to gain access to the pool area.

Towels for the pool are provided in each Gite.

    FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN

The swimming pool is heated and we also have a small splash turtle which can be filled with warm water from the pool.  There is a baby swing and a special play area for the under 6's.

The cycle track is the old railway line which used to run between Sarlat and Souillac.  Running for approx 25km, it has been tarmaced and provides a safe and flat route along the Dordogne valley.

River swimming:  There is access to the Dordogne at the bridge at Rouffillac.  We also know of a number of other quieter places, so please ask.

The Gites are situated on the hillside overlooking the village of Carlux dominated by its 13 century ruined chateau.

If you are flying in, a few hints:

The low cost airlines are very strict about baggage/hand baggage allowances.  When they say 15kg, they really do mean it!  Many people get caught out.  We can lend you a set of scales to weigh your bags.

When hiring a car try to avoid the partner company of the airline you are travelling with, the queues to collect your car can be very long.

Upon landing leave one person to collect you bags and send one person straight through to pick up your car.

If you have an early flight and cannot get the car hire company to sign for the returned car, keep the receipt showing that you have filled up the petrol tank, take a digital photograph of the speedometer and fuel gauge and leave a post it note (please ask for one) with the return mileage on it.

    BY TRAIN

The main line between Paris Austerlitz and Toulouse passes through Souillac (10 miles) and Brive (30 miles).  There is a motorail service to Brive during the summer months.

If you are arriving during the week you will need to contact us in the week prior to your arrival to arrange an arrival time.

    WEATHER

We are often asked what the weather will be like next July.  This is not an easy question to answer as often we cannot be sure what the weather will be like next week!  As a rough guide, April normally has day temperatures in the high teens/low 20's but we have had temperatures reaching into the 30's, however there also remains the risk of a late frost!  May tends to be more settled and from mid May we generally have stable temperatures in the low 20's.  June & July tend to be the hottest months and it is slightly more variable in August.  There is normally a period in the height of the summer when temperatures are in the mid 30's.  September is a variable month with some lovely days but also some unsettled weather and October starts to see much cooler nights.  During the summer months there is often a pattern of a series of increasingly hot days followed by a spectacular electrical storm, normally during the night, which quickly lowers the temperature!
